A bridge between Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Jordan with its distinctive culture, epic natural wonders and inexhaustible supply of architectural masterpieces captivates tourists from all over the world. Even the deserts that cover 85 percent of the Kingdom lands offer a multitude of vistas – from reddish sand dunes to sheer Rocky Mountains, from canyons to oases rich with palm trees.



The best-known attraction Jordan boasts is undoubtedly the pink-hued “lost city” of Petra carved from sandstone cliff in 312 BC. Once a capital and flourishing trading center of the Nabataean Empire, in 2007 it was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and became a must-see site. However, this ancient land considered to be a part of the region which gave birth to our civilization, has much more to attract travelers’ attention, among them Christian sites mentioned in the Old Testament including Bethany-Beyond-The-Jordan, the place John baptized Jesus Christ; Ain Musa, where Moses struck the rock with his staff causing water to gush out, the Lot’s Cave where Lot and his daughters lived for many years, Mount Nebo from which Moses saw the Promised Land before his death and Madaba famous for its unique Byzantine-era mosaics.



The Kingdom preserved Roman amphitheaters, the ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Gerasa lying in modern Jerash and Ain Ghazal, one of the biggest settlements of Neolithic Period, located in Amman, the capital and largest city of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
 
Nevertheless, architecture is not the only strong point of Jordan. It’s a land of pictorial sceneries. Magnetic desert Wadi Rum often called “the Valley of the Moon”, is renowned for its unearthly landscapes resembling Mars vistas. It is the exact place where English film director and producer Ridley Scott shot his science fiction movies Prometheus (2012) and The Martian (2015). Wadi Rum became a scene for the Red Planet (2000) and The Last Days on Mars (2013) as well. Spectacular canyons with Nabatean rock paintings and massive sandstone mountains that climbers and trekkers will fall in love with perfectly complement the whole picture of the wadi. 



Another natural attraction is surely the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. Its therapeutic properties are known from Biblical period.
